About Jerry Lerner, MD

I am a physician, educator, and coach with more than four decades of experience working at the intersection of rehabilitation medicine, trauma recovery, addiction treatment, and pain rehabilitation.

Over the course of my career, I served as medical director of a rehabilitation hospital, chief medical officer of a national treatment center, and worked closely with individuals facing spinal cord injury, persistent pain, trauma, addiction, and major life disruption.

Across these settings, I had the opportunity to observe how people respond to profound challenge—what helps, what hinders, and what allows recovery to take hold.

Over time, a consistent question emerged:

Why do some people recover and grow, while others remain stuck—even with similar care and resources?

That question shaped the direction of my work for many years.

Through decades of clinical observation, study, and personal exploration, this question led to the development of the Four Dimensions of Resilience—a whole-person framework describing how vitality is lost and restored across four interdependent domains of human functioning.

Today, I work with a small number of individuals using this framework to support recovery from burnout, trauma, illness, and major life transitions.

I also teach and consult with clinicians and organizations seeking a more integrated and sustainable approach to resilience.

My work is grounded in science, shaped by decades of clinical experience, and guided by a belief in our innate capacity to return to ourselves—again and again.
